ChemPaths:Social Faculty Project

The web holds many websites with material to help teach Chemistry at all levels. Many can be found at resources such as MERLOT, ChemCollective], or SymMath. One of the goals of the NSDL project is "to provide organized access to high quality resources and tools that support innovations in teaching and learning at all levels" [1]. In order to better serve toward this end, we are investigating the social bookmarking method of gathering and 'group reviewing' resources within a faculty division.

Using Diigo, individual faculty can obtain their own username and profile and add bookmarks to a faculty groups. In addition, Diigo allows annotations can be used to start up conversations about only a particular section of text, or explanation. It enables Sticky-notes to be added, just as you would in a book. By making notes either public, private, or open to a group annotations can be made that add information for anyone (like students) to read, just for a single teacher, or open for commenting to other teachers.

This project is currently in it's brainstorming page, so I encourage use of the editing tab (at the top of this article) to add your own comments about what would be useful, or if you are interested in a pilot version of this.
