Communities:ChemEd DL
From ChemEd Collaborative
The Chemical Education Digital Library, a collaboration involving the Journal of Chemical Education, the American Chemical Society Education Division, and the National Science Digital Library, provides on online chemistry education community that covers the entire spectrum of the chemical sciences. This large community is built upon smaller communities that are characterized according to their subdiscipline of the chemical sciences or by education level. We also expect that communities will develop around areas of content in ChemEd DL, such as periodic table or chemistry video, or around pedagogical methods, such as testing and assessment.
Communities currently being developed within ChemEd DL are listed below. We in no way plan to limit ChemEd DL to these communities. Our goal is to develop many communities that span the interests of the practicioners and consumers of chemistry education.
ChemEd DL Communities
- General Chemistry
- Physical Chemistry
- Inorganic Chemistry
- High School Chemistry
- Chemistry Laboratories
- Division of Chemical Education
- Journal of Chemical Education
- Chemical Information
Community Resources
It is hoped that each community will develop a 'living textbook', online collaborative groups, information and data resources, assessment materials, and course materials for use by members of the community and the overall ChemEd DL community. Each community will also provide input on library development (controlled vocabulary, community-building services). It is NOT imperative that each community develop all these resources and each community is NOT limited to resources on this list.
Community Governance
Each 'officially recognized' ChemEd DL community will be governed by an editorial board. The editorial boards of each community will consist of several volunteer individuals who will provide guidance to the community, provide an evaluation system for the content contributed, and promote contributions.
