ChemEd DL home page
To proceed in the development of the ChemEd DL site as a social site or content sharing site, we need to decide what we wish to convey to the user on our home page and what functionality we need to accommodate.
It is interesting to note that the methane molecule currently used as a placeholder in the site has the same number of hydrogens as the number of functions Flickr has on its home page.
The home page must convey the excitement of chemistry and learning about chemistry. Our Chemistry Comes Alive! collection of video clips and images provides us with a great many interesting and exciting images to present to the user.
We must try to convey an image that is the antithesis of what our name is. Many do not know what a digital library is. They do know that a library is a place where you are quiet and studious—not the kind of place that most view as exciting. To counteract the image that our name conveys, we need a good tag line, "Share your chemical education. Teach chemistry to the world."
The inside pages of the site must be able to accommodate a way to bring the excitement and curiosity of chemistry to the forefront. We do not want to loose them once they are inside.
