Development:JCE Digital Library

The role of JCE Digital Library changes with the emergence of the ChemEd DL. ChemEd DL aims to provide a superset of content and services that includes JCE DLib. As ChemEd DL is able to do so, much of what JCE DLib provides will be less useful to its patrons. Hopefully, JCE DLib patrons will be well aware of ChemEd DL and will use ChemEd DL services to gain access to JCE DLib content.

JCE Digital Library remains as the source of material published online by JCE. This becomes the sole role of JCE DLib.

The JCE Digital Library content should be managed as part of the ChemEd DL ChemEd Content service. This will provide a standard submission, assessment, and cataloguing processes to JCE DLib. JCE DLib will still be responsible for managing authorization for access to its content. ChemEd Content can provide the content to JCE DLib upon request.

The JCE Digital Library catalog or metadata repository should be migrated to ChemEd DL. This will provide JCE DLib with the more advanced capabilities of ChemEd DL that will be developed. As we develop ChemEd DL to provide services such as Textbooks Tables of Contents, JCE DLib content will be included.

Open review materials in JCE Digital Library should be moved to ChemEd DL. JCE DLib becomes the home for those materials that have been reviewed and accepted for pubication in JCE. Other materials that do not undergo this process should no longer be part of JCE DLib. Where such materials are used to seed a JCE DLib collection, ChemEd DL can provide those materials to JCE DLib.

The reversal of publisher and library roles idea that we propose works well here. ChemEd DL becomes the repository for digital chemical education materials and JCE DLib serves as a publication outlet for those materials that undergo the JCE review process and that are accepted for publication.
