General Chemistry Community Resources: GenChem QBank

GenChem QBank is a repository of general chemistry homework, quiz and exam questions submitted by the members of the ChemEd DL General Chemistry community. These questions are "tried-and-true", having been used by community members in their own courses. Any member can submit his or her own questions to share with other community members. Sets of questions are tagged with keywords so that they will be found in ChemEd DL searches for resources. Ideally, submitted questions should be grouped by topic to make it easier for members to find just the right question for their own chemistry assignments.

An excellent resource for GenChem QBank users is the JCE QBank. A wide variety of questions have been developed to cover most topics in general chemistry. While most of the questions are multiple-choice or multi-select, there also are matching, calculated and short-answer questions. Some questions even incorporate interactive molecules, movies and pop-up data tables. Existing collections in the QBank include questions formatted for both the WebCT and Moodle course management systems, and an HTML version that can be used when constructing non-interactive online homework sets and quizzes. The ConcepTests and Conceptual Questions and Challenge Problems are designed to challenge students further by requiring them to apply their knowledge of a chemistry topic to more challenging problems, either in a group setting or in a homework/quiz format.
