About ChemEd DL
ChemEd DL is the destination for digital content intended for chemical sciences education. We aim to be the place where you can contribute, share, and organize chemistry education materials. With oversight provided by the various communities that comprise ChemEd DL, we strive to provide the best of what chemical education has to offer.
ChemEd DL has its foundation built upon the Journal of Chemical Education, the Education Division of the American Chemical Society, and the ChemCollective Project. Here, you will find resources for education that span the entire science of chemistry.

ChemEd DL Services
The ChemEd DL provides various online services to the chemical education community. These services include
- ChemEd Catalog, library catalog of resources (JCE Digital Library)
- ChemEd Courses, Moodle course management service
- ChemEd Collaborative, MediaWiki this wiki
- ChemEd Content, Alfresco content management service
Much of the media content of our Repository is accessible via an API which allows developers in the education community access to high quality media (videos, images, Jmol molecular structures) without needing to reinvent the wheel. Contact us if you're interested in developing resources and check out the "Development" section, below.
If you're using a Content Management System such as MediaWiki, Joomla! or Drupal, you may be interested in ChemEd DL CMS Extensions which are at various stages of production. We aim to support educators developing tools in common open source platforms if possible.
ChemEd DL Development
ChemEd DL is being developed by the entire chemistry education community. Areas of development include
- ChemEd DL WWW site
- Chemistry Education controlled vocabulary
- Textbook Tables of Contents
- ChemEd Content management system
- Documentation
ChemEd Content Tools
In our effort to place ChemEd DL into the paths that people are using, we are developing tools that enable ChemEd Content to be accessed within popular Internet sites such as Google, Facebook, MySpace, and Ning. The tools below are being developed as part of this effort.
We also are actively developing extensions for common Content Management Systems (CMS). Check the Development:CMS Extensions page for updates and ways to contribute.
Our technical development team meets biweekly to discuss ongoing efforts to make the ChemEd DL as accessible as possible. The meeting agendas and discussion of topics is located here: Development:TechGroup:Meetings.
